Why has the issue of abortion created more divisiveness than real solutions? How would Jesus approach unplanned pregnancy and abortion?
At Caris, we’ve prayerfully sought a response we call The Caris Approach.
The Caris Approach of Commitment, Counseling and Connection focuses on supporting all women in Cook County who are facing unplanned pregnancies. This approach meets the needs of both women and children, builds common ground around a divisive issue and reduces the number of abortions.
What messages do we hear about unplanned pregnancy and abortion? Do we ask ourselves what it would actually be like if we, or a friend or family member, were in the situation?
In the 25 years of Caris, we have talked with more than 30,000 women and this is what we’ve learned: The majority of women feel that there is no positive outcome to an unplanned pregnancy. Many times, either they have an abortion or resign themselves to struggle as a single parent. It is Caris’ responsibility to tell a different story by embracing women right where they are in their journey and meeting their needs. This is the only way to give them real possibilities for their pregnancy and their future.
Will you be part of the new conversation?
Whether intentional or not, in the political abortion debate people perceive that one side cares more for the needs of the woman, while the other side values the needs of the child.
At Caris, we believe in a third response—a new kind of Christian response that is not political and allows us, as a community, to work together for positive and practical solutions for both women and children.
We want women facing unplanned pregnancies to have the strong support network needed to see positive outcomes for themselves and their children. Regardless of your politics, we invite you to become part of a new conversation that is changing the stories of women and children in Chicago.
